McKinley-Burnstein Handwriting Analyzer OVERVIEW At last, quick and accurate handwriting analysis on your PalmPilot. This program is based on the seminal 1997 research paper by J.R. McKinley and R. Burnstein which describes a method for using digitized signatures to drive a powerful analysis engine. The McKinley-Burnstein Handwriting Analyzer (MBHA) offers professional quality handwriting analysis on your PalmPilot, including features normally only found on high end PC based programs; such as slant normalization, descender compression, and spacing reduction. INSTALLATION Follow the standard PalmPilot installation procedure for MBHA: First, unzip MBHA.ZIP somewhere on your PC or Mac. Then from Windows, run the PALMPILOT INSTALL TOOL program which will be in the same group as your PalmPilot Desktop application. When the install dialog comes up, click on the BROWSE button and navigate to the directory where you unzipped the MBHA.PRC file. Select MBHA.PRC by double-clicking it in the FILE OPEN dialog and then click on the INSTALL button. On the next HotSync, the MBHA application will appear in your list of applications. OPERATION On starting MBHA you are presented with two buttons, Analyze and Information. Click Information to get some information about the program and algorithms used for handwriting analysis. When finished click Done and you will return to the starting screen. Click Analyze to begin the handwriting analysis process. Analyze takes you to the setup menu, which asks that you check boxes to select the parameters to be used for analysis. The questions are: Hand: X Right X Left Click on the check box for Right if you are writing right handed, or left if you are writing left handed. Gender: X Male X Female Click on the check box for male if you are a male, or female if you are a female. If you don't know your gender click male. X Enable Descender Compression Click on this box to enable descender correction, which tends to correct for skew in the results introduces by long tails on letters which have descenders, such as y, p, and q. This should generally be checked. X Enable Spacing Reduction This box minimized excess space between letters, it should generally be checked. X Enable Slant Normalization This box normalizes letter slant to vertical, this box should almost always be checked for left handers, and generaly for right handers. X Registered user of ThisWeek, DailyTracker, HandiGolf, or PalmChord. This box should be checked if you are a registered user of any of my shareware programs. Results of the analysis will be significantly more pleasant if this box is checked. In case you didn't know, this is the give away that this program is a goof. Use it to mess with your friends (or enemies) - just don't show them this documentation. SUPPORT For support of MBHA contact reesley@reesley.com
