CHEAP BEERS
DISCLAIMER: The opinions here are just mine, I'm not a licensed beer expert, just a beer drinker. I have not yet acheived any advanced degrees in beer drinking, nor have I attended beer college (Okay, some say I majored in beer in college - but it's not really true).
I started this survey because my favorite beer (Heineken) raised its prices by $4 a case, which is now up to $26 per case here in New Jersey. That's insane! I can't afford to drink good beer anymore, I must go cheap!
I'd like to hear from you if you have comments or suggestions!
NOTE: I have excluded light beers from this survey, if you have to drink light beer, just buy Coors Light - it's the best by far (though it tastes like water). You should always have Coors Light in your fridge just in case any women show up at your place. Plus, it's cheap so you don't mind when the women drink it.
ANOTHER NOTE: I have excluded Ice beers from this survey too. They tend to have significantly more alcohol than regular beers, usually 10-20% more. If you want to sit around and get drunk, this is the way to go. Most ice beers have an alcohol content around 5.9%. Hammer time!
BEERS IN ORDER TRIED...
Busch Beer
Price: $14 per case
Alcohol: 4.6%
Grade: C
A very light beer, tastes like regular beer with 50% water added.
Honestly, you may as well drink Coors Light and save a few more
calories.
Still, not as nasty as some others. Not much aftertaste, I definitely
prefer it to Bud. An Anheuser Busch product.
Coors
Price: $14 per case
Alcohol: 5.0%
Grade: D
Really watery, and a very odd after taste. Definitely tastes a little
like pee. I wonder if it tastes better in the West, because this
stuff tastes bad on the East Coast. Maybe it's
the water, like maybe our East water just wont mix with this crap. I
don't know what the problem is, but it's not good beer.
Yeungling Lager
Price: $14.00 per case
Alcohol: 4.4%
Grade: C
I wanted to like this beer, but it has a funky aftertaste and can be
a little bitter. My friend the Dude loves this stuff, and he almost
talked me into liking it. But I can't do it. It's just okay. At
least it's fairly low alcohol...
A Yeungling product.
Rolling Rock
Price: $8.99 per 12 pack
Alcohol: 4.5%
Grade: D
I used to drink this sometimes as a summer beer, but it really
has a bizarre after taste, and it's very light. Not good. Brewed with
rice and corn, but why?. Who would put rice and corn into beer, that can't be
right. What would happen if they
beechwood aged it too? It would probably be so bad, it would taste
like Bud...
A Labtrobe product.
Coors Extra Gold
Price: $14.99 per 30 pack (YES!)
Alcohol: 5.0%
Grade: A
This is a very golden colored lager, it's probably the goldest tasting
beer ever. So far it's my favorite cheap beer. Coors is a weird
company, I don't get the Extra Gold part - what the hell does that
mean. What the hell does it mean to say Coors Light is the coldest
tasting beer. Still, it's pretty good beer.
O'Doul's
Price: $8 per 12 pack
Alcohol: 0.1%
Grade: C
Holy crap, there is no alcohol in this beer. What the hell is that
about, beer without alcohol? Still, it has more taste
that most of the majors, I wonder why that is?
It's very malty, but it was not bad. I've been trying to sneak one in
now and then to avoid getting too drunk. Good work
Anheuser Busch!
Yeungling Black & Tan
Price: $14.00 per case
Alcohol: 4.5%
Grade B+
Pretty good, sweet and somewhat caramel tasting. Good if you are just
having a few, too sweet for many more than that. It looks cool in a
mug.

Pabst Blue Ribbon
Heileman's Special Export
Stroh's Beer
Schaefer
Alcohol: 4.9%

This stuff is crap, even for cheap beer. What a horrible taste, and
with an awful aftertaste. Seems to have some good reviews out there,
so I expected more. But they were wrong, horribly wrong.
It's crap.
A Coors product.
Price: $14 per case
Alcohol: 5.0%
Grade A
Pretty good, definitely more taste than most. No funky
aftertaste. Could be smoother. I really just have one issue with this
beer, what's up with the stupid name? There is also a beer called Red
Wolf, but it seems to be unrelated. That name is stupid too. I
expected this to be another red beer, but it's not.
I could drink this stuff.
Plank Road Brewery (now Miller).
Price: $8.99 per 12 pack
Alcohol: 4.8%
Grade: B
This is a pretty light beer, but it has some kick to it. Not much
aftertaste, and it's a nice summer beer. I like it.
A Pabst product...
Price: $9.99 per 12 pack
Alcohol: 5.0%
Grade: F
I cannot believe it, they actually have the balls to charge more for this
crap! Amazing. Probably the worst beer I have tried. I would give up drinking if
this was the only thing I could drink. Why would you age beer in
beechwood? What the hell is beechwood? Do some people have beechwood
tables? Why would people want that, why do people buy this stuff?
Are the ads that good? You gotta drink this watery beer, otherwise you wont
get to see the Bud ads? Barf. Stop the insanity.
An Anheuser Busch product.
Price: $18 per 30 pack
Alcohol: 5.0%
Grade: D
Yuck. What an odd taste. It sat it my fridge for months and months
before I finished off my test case. After this beer, I started just
buying test six packs. In fact, I gave up the search really because I
don't want to be stuck drinking crap like this anymore.
Price: ?? per 6 pack
Grade: C
A friend left this in my fridge, so I don't know what it costs. He is
still my friend, so it's not that bad a beer. This is one of those
beers that tastes okay, but it does not taste like beer should. It
just has a weird taste, like they added artificial flavorings and
mixed them up until they came up with something that tastes like beer,
but is actually made from potatoes or something.
It is a nice jazzy name though, sounds like a guy who would wear a
panama style hat, right?
A Genesee product.
Price: Not sure, but it is damn cheap!
Alcohol: 4.5%
Grade: B+
The Beast!!! This is some really cheap beer, I've heard of it going
for 9 bucks a 30 pack. Here is a telling thing about the Beast, the
alcohol content of this beer is the exact same as the alcohol content
of Milwaukee's Best Light! This is some light friggin beer.
Still, it's not a gross beer, in fact, it's pretty good for a really
light beer. No funky aftertaste, and it is definitely thirst
quenching. I may try it again in the summer. I think it may be the
same beer as Olympia, sure taste similar.
